Process facilitator

From idea to design

Moving towards your shared ambition does not happen automatically. You do not understand each other immediately, you are busy with your daily work. Often you need more than one meeting to build a programme, project, research agenda, or whatever you have in mind. It takes time to arrive at shared understanding and interdisciplinary integration of perspectives. We call the development from the idea to a tangible collaboration a process.

The quality of that process determines the success of your future collaboration. When all participants feel heard and when everyone’s perspective is given proper attention, shared responsibility emerges. I bring together the knowledge and skills of those involved into the big picture. As a result, support and ownership follow automatically and we naturally move towards your common goals.

As process facilitator:

  • I help a group of people to work together, and to arrive at shared understanding and integration of perspectives
  • I know how to design meetings in such a way that all participants are heard and the group interacts constructively
  • I guide the process from idea to detailed collaboration plan
  • I am transparent, impartial and I constantly maintain an overview
  • I deal flexibly with internal and external changes that influence the process

How much time does this take?

It certainly takes time to arrive at a widely supported building plan, perhaps more than you initially thought. But without a foundation, no building is solid. Because we lay a good foundation for future collaboration, it saves time in the implementation and execution phase. Besides, you have a constructive sparring partner in me for all stakeholders involved, and I take an active role in the realisation of the result. And that in turn saves you time. And deadlines? Of course we meet them.

Working method

1.

Exploration phase

First, I ask a lot of questions. What exactly is your goal, your vision? Why is achieving that goal important? What should the result roughly look like? Which people are involved, what are their roles, what are their relationships and interests? I create an overview, get to know the key stakeholders and look for best practices if necessary. Based on this, I show you what is needed to achieve the result and design the contours of the co-creation process. I have a steep learning curve and am therefore up to speed very quickly.

Co-creation phase

  • I design and facilitate meetings with your group and other stakeholders
  • I facilitate the group in connecting to each other, in having a dialogue about their motivations and perspectives and in designing the end result and the co-creation process itself.
  • I keep an eye on the dynamics and relationships in the group and guide you through the ups and downs of your collaboration.
  • I use Liberating Structures as the basis for the meetings, and ensure inclusive decision-making by Deep Democracy and sociocracy.
  • In between meetings, I harvest the meeting outputs, take action and ensure transparent communication.

Together, we arrive at a detailed plan for your inter- or transdisciplinary collaboration, whether or not across the boundaries of organisations. While we work on the content, the group builds mutual trust. The meetings are inspiring, connecting and productive. In this way I lay a solid foundation for future collaboration. Your vision becomes reality.

Implementation phase

If necessary, I start implementing your collaboration. This is tailor-made. For example:

  • communications around the launch
  • a kick-off meeting
  • implementation into daily business procedures
  • recruitment of permanent staff for the implementation phase

Process facilitator knowledge agenda

For the Dutch consortium Kennis over Zien I facilitated a group of care and educational professionals in developing the Cerebral Visual Disorders knowledge agenda. A knowledge agenda reflects knowledge needs of the target group and professionals, and enables strategic choices in research and knowledge development.

What others say

‘You can communicate easily and quickly with Moniek prior to the session. She pleasantly and proactively thinks along with the assignment and, at the same time, quickly makes it her own with appropriate, inspiring and active work forms. Moniek knows how to create an open and pleasant atmosphere in which people feel at ease. At the same time, she is sharp in monitoring the meeting goals and the dot on the horizon to achieve the desired content and output.’
